Pete Haine was born in Bow in 1955, moving to Stevenage in 1960. He chose to support Tottenham in 1961 after watching the Cup Final against Leicester City but wasn’t allowed to travel to London so watched Stevenage Town from 1964. He visited Wembley in 1967 to watch Steve Perryman play for England Schoolboys, and eventually set foot in White Hart Lane in April 1969 to see Jimmy Greaves score the only goal against West Ham. Now retired, season ticket holder and secretary of the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust.

Football Groundhog Day Ever been to the same game three times? Sounds like an episode of Doctor Who involving time travel, but it happened to me back in 1969. Saturday 29 November 1969 Our school rugby union team played on Saturday mornings, giving six of us the opportunity to travel up to London to watch a football match in the afternoon.
